The 2014 Annual Seascape Art Show and Sale was a great success and celebrated its 24th year. The event was recently held in the Conference Center of Seascape Resort in Destin. Sharon Long, a local watercolor artist hosts this annual event to promote the work of her clients and friends that participate in her watercolor classes. She estimates around 500 locals and winter tourists attended the two day event that featured original art, prints, gifts, and cards from their watercolor creations. Participants were able to meet the artists in person, view their works and even purchase the pieces and gift items printed from their original watercolor designs.
Show participants

Art Show attendees were treated to refreshments and a chance to vote for the People’s Choice Award from Sharon’s current class participants. Each client could enter an original piece created in Sharon’s class or during her lessons to be voted on by those attending the event. This was the first year for the People’s Choice Award and attendees really liked the experience.

Lanette Johnson, Winner

Lannette Johnson, a snowbird and part-time local from Hudsonville, MI took first place in the event with her watercolor titled “Five Ducks in the Snow” her second watercolor portrait of her grandchildren. She painted the portrait from a personal photo and loved seeing the image come together.

Second Place was awarded to Gina Schoenherr, a winter guest from Wisconsin for her watercolor that featured a Destin beach scene with sand dunes. Third Place went to Bonnie Rollenhagen of Travers City, MI for her birch trees in watercolor. Fourth place was a tie and went to Russ Watts of St. Louis, MO for his detailed depiction of an old fishing boat and Pat Faber, a local from Destin. Faber’s entry featured a watercolor painting of a lion fish. Winners of the People’s Choice were awarded prizes donated by Sharon Long and Leslie Hathorn, event coordinators.

Long would like to thank all of the artists that participated in the event and those attending for their support of art and the artists creating it. “It is such a pleasure showing off these talented artists and their watercolor creations.” “We love our winter friends and attribute the success of the show to them”
